The real price of Black Friday

Black Friday, the day when the world goes wild with product shopping. Discounts fly around your ears, and before you know it, your online shopping cart is full of stuff you may not even need all of. It seems like you're being smart by saving, but do you know who's really footing the bill? Our planet.

To get all those great deals ready to send your packages, factories are running at full capacity. Extra production means extra raw materials, energy and..... right, waste. A large portion of all these products end up never being used. They end up in landfills or in the incinerator, even though they were made just for us.

And that's not even all, all these products involve mountains of packaging. From cardboard boxes to yards of plastic material. It's all meant to get your purchase home safely. Unfortunately, much of all this plastic is left behind in nature. Yes, even the packaging from your last purchase ends up in this pile.

Ordered today, is delivered tomorrow. That's great, right? But that also means trucks, planes and ships running day and night. All that transportation creates huge amounts of CO2 emissions. The transportation industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world, and Black Friday only exacerbates that.

One of the most popular categories that sells a lot during Black Friday is electronics. Think phones, laptops and headphones. All these new products make the older versions obsolete. Any idea where these go? Right, the landfill. Electronic waste is growing at lightning speed, while only a small portion of it is actually recycled.

It's high time to rethink our choices. Because no, you don't have to join the Black Friday madness . In fact, there are a few ways to be more conscious about your purchases. Fortunately, you don't have to do your own research and we've listed a few tips for you:

Buy less, but better 1. Choose quality and durability. Products that last are often cheaper and better for the earth in the end.

2. Support local entrepreneurs. This way you support the neighborhood and reduce the polluting transport impact.

3. Skip Black Friday for a while. Take a critical look at what you already have lying around. Do you really need to buy that new item now, or are they really just impulse buys?

At Zereau Drinks, we know how important conscious choices are. Our sustainable water taps show that you can think big and make a real impact at the same time.

So, before you plan to grab Black Friday this year, pause for a moment. Those bargains can really come with a higher price tag than can be seen with the calculator alone.
